2017 Beijing Waldorf Charity Ball

华夏点讯,一点知天下At the end of the 19th century, the original Waldorf Astoria Hotel opened in New York, the first luxury chapter of this auspicious brand, during the Golden age of New York where high society met and mingled at the “Hyphen”. A symbol of the 20th century America. At the beginning of 2014, The Waldorf Astoria officially opened in the heart of Beijing as the next chapter and future of luxury.

On October 28, 2017, Waldorf Astoria Beijing held their annual ball, “Meet me at the Hyphen” charity ball. This year’s theme "years of gilt, luxury forever" 

Hand in hand with red velvet
The red velvet dessert was originated in the last century at the Waldorf Astoria New York and became the signature desserts of Waldorf Astoria around the world. During 2017 Waldorf Astoria Beijing Charity Ball, 16 chefs used 26,000 pieces of macarons to create a "red velvet tower" with a height of 1.62 meters and 12 hours to compete to challenge the World Tallest Macaron Tower. The Red Velvet Macaron Tower was actioned during the ball and all proceeds were donated to Charity Organization and the macarons were then sent to the Beijing Fengtai Children’s Hospital on November 1, 2017 for the children to enjoy.

Time Travel from New York to Beijing 
From New York to Beijing, from the golden age of the 19th century to the modern luxury of the 21st century, time travel experience through two centuries with a breathtaking show. Waldorf Astoria Beijing was transformed with tunnel made of LED screens of videos and pictures of New York and Beijing. A taste of traditional Chinese blended in Western culture has provided our guest an unforgettable evening. 

Michelin Starred Guest Chef
Olivier Elzer, a French-style Michelin Star, offers a custom-made six-style Michelin-style menu featuring fresh sea urchins from Hokkaido with salmon and black truffle, Alaskan King Crabs, shelled abalone and imported beef with foie gras. Each dish was paired selected wines to bring an exceptional French dining experience.

Foreign Jazz Band
Waldorf Astoria New York was famous for many galas and balls while dancing has always been a part of its allure and history, made even more famous by being depicted so often on the screen in many classic films. The most famous being “Scent of a Woman” the Oscar winning movie starring Al Pacino. He plays a blind Colonel who dances a most impressive Tango at the hotel. Arouse old memories and dance your night away.

Luxury Lucky Draw
Supported by Conrad and Waldorf Astoria hotels, luxury prizes of complimentary stays was given to guests during the charity ball. The gift certificate provide guests with two to three nights complimentary stay at Conrad and Waldorf Astoria hotels around the world.

Charity Auction
With sponsors that included Van Cleef & Arpels, WECOUTURE, PLAY-LOSOPHY and Georg Jensen, the prizes up for Auction elegance personified. Our vision is also the vision of the global Hilton family, one of giving back to local and global non- profit organizations that need support.  Mr. Conrad Hilton said: “It has been, and continues to be, our responsibility to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.” Waldorf Astoria Beijing has been committed to charity and local community involvement. This year, Waldorf Astoria Beijing Charity Ball raised a total of RMB 48,200. All proceeds from the evening’s activities were donated to IFAW to rescue and protect animals around the world and Right to Play, a global organization committed to improving the lives of children and youth affected by conflict, disease and poverty. 

Mr. Brian Tong, General Manager Waldorf Astoria Beijing, said: "2017 Waldorf Astoria Charity Ball was a part of our action for the Global Week of Service. It has and it will always be our responsibility to support these organizations. In the future, we will continue to get involved with the local community and do everything we can to help build a harmonious society".

Ms. Sun Haihua, Project Manager from Right to Play and Mr. He Yong, Chief Representative of the International Animal Welfare Animal Center (IFAW), attended the charity ball and presented the certificates and appreciation letter to the charity auction winners.
